Heatsink for High Power LEDs
A heatsink is a passive heat exchanger that transfers heat generated by an electronic device to air where it is dissipated away from the device, thereby allowing regulation of the device's temperature at optimal levels. Heat sinks are used with high-power semiconductor devices such as transistors and optoelectronics such as lasers and light emitting diodes (LEDs).
A heatsink is designed to maximize its surface area in contact with the cooling medium surrounding it, such as the air. Thermal adhesive or thermal grease improve the heat sink's performance by filling air gaps between the heat sink and the heat spreader on the device.
When used with High Power LEDs, a thermal adhesive such as JB Weld which has tremendous bonding abilities along with superior thermal transfer properties.
These heatsinks measure 150 x 20 x 6mm (5.9” x 0.8” x 0.24”) with seven cooling ribs.
