The tachometer is similar to a digital frequency meter, where it counts and displays pulses from the NPN proximity sensor. Mount the included magnet on the rotating motor shaft (hub, spindle, etc.) with the NPN proximity sensor close to the magnet, and the display will show the number of pulses received.
