38mm LED Filament

360º Viewing Angle

The LED Filament is a tiny LED tube, measuring only 38mm from end-to-end, with ultra-small and very bright LEDs inside. Each operates on 12V DC at up to 45mA (0.045A) current and produces light in the full 360-degree around the filament.

Filament LEDs are commen in Edison Bulbs and produce a retro-type lighting. Unfortunately, the Edison Bulbs run at very high voltages and are not suitable for low-voltage hobby projects.

Filament are available in several colors, each requiring only 12V to operate and produce a very bright light a full 360-degrees.

Measuring 38mm (1.5-inch) from end-to-end, the filament has a diameter of 1.6mm. The LED element itself measures approximately 30mm in length. If not handled with care, the ceramic material used for the base of the filament can be easily damaged because of its extreme fragility.

You cannot cut the filament to shorter lengths because the tiny LEDs are encapsulated in the ceramic base.

The conductive metal tabs on each end supply power to the filament. The positive (+) terminal has a tiny hole on the meter tab, while the negative (-) tab does not.

If operating at higher voltages, it is advisable to use a series dropping resistor to limit the current to 45mA through the LED. Use our online dropping resistor calculator to determine the correct value of dropping resistor.

The 38mm 12V filament LED has a maximum current handling of 45mA (0.045A), exceeding that rating can degrade the device performance or ruin it completely. The selection of the series dropping resistor in your circuit will ensure the longevity of your LED.
