MAX7219 8x8 Dot Matrix Display

The mini 8×8 Dot Matrix LED Display Module is based on the MAX7219 dot matrix module chip. It is a serial input common-cathode driver that interfaces microcontrollers to LED matrices.

All common microcontrollers including Arduino models can be connected to this module.

A connection is made by using the 4-wire serial interface. Each output can be addressed without refreshing the entire display. This module requires only 3 I/O lines for driving the display, making it ideal for your microcontroller projects. Features such as display brightness can be adjusted in software to the MAX7219.

Pin Descriptions

• CLK: Serial-Clock Input.
• CS: Chip-Select Input.
• DIN: Serial-Data Input.
• DOUT: Serial-Data Output.
• VCC: Positive Supply Voltage. Connect to +5V.
• GND: Ground

Note: Each board comes pre-assembled. There are two five-pin connectors included that need soldering to the board when you receive your item. One is a straight header while the other is a right-angle. Upon request, we can solder the five-pin right-angle connector to the IN port of the board for you if you do not have the necessary soldering skills.
