5mm Candle Flicker LED

The candle flicker LED contains a tiny internal controller which causes the LED to vary its brightness randomly, giving the LED a candle flicker appearance. The super bright LED in a standard size 5 mm package with a water-clear lens. These LEDs are an ideal alternative to candles in decorations and displays.

Simplified Connection For Candle Flicker LEDs

Candle Flicker LED Connection Instructions

Candle Flicker LEDs are extremely popular in theatric lighting and scale model building (miniature buildings, railroad, and scale-car models). The LED requires very little energy, making them an excellent choice for battery operation.

The most straightforward connection of the Candle Flicker LED uses a pair of AA batteries, providing 3 volts (see our 2 AA Battery Holder, with an integrated on/off switch).

The chart below outlines the series dropping resistor required to limit current to the Candle Flicker LED. From the chart, match the desired LED model to the power supply option you will be using, and the chart will indicate the value of dropping resistor required. For example, a Blue Candle Flicker LED, operating at 5 volts, will require a 75 ohm resistor.
